ANGELA DETANICO / RAFAEL LAIN
Angela Detanico et Rafael Lain travaillent ensemble depuis 1996. Sémiologue et graphiste de formation, respectivement nés en 1974 et 1973 au Brésil, ils vivent et travaillent à Paris. Ils ont eu en 2007 le pavillon brésilien à la Biennale de Venise.
Fascinés par ce qui dépasse l’homme et la compréhension du monde qui l’entoure, ils tirent d’une recherche scientifique, mathématique et littéraire des systèmes de représentation et d’écriture du temps, de l’espace, de la mémoire, de l’infini.
Héritée du statement conceptuel et ancrée dans l’usage de nouveaux moyens de création sonore, graphique et plastique, leur démarche s’exprime dans un formalisme rigoureux et épuré d’une grande poésie.
The young Brazilian couple, Angela Detanico and Rafael Lain, have been working together since 1996. Their largely conceptual works employ the use of sound, graphics, text, video, and other traditional art mediums within their installations. They represent a rigorous use of formalism and a refined use of visual and written poetry.
Their work reflects their joint fascination with the human ability to contemplate the world around them and beyond. Imbued with scientific, mathematical and literary references, their work applies themes of time, space, memory and the infinite beyond.
Detanico and Lain, a semiotician and a graphic designer respectively, currently live and work in Paris. They were two of three artists chosen to represent Brazil in the 2007 Venice Biennale.
