Raised Voices: Anthony McCall | SOLO SHOW

About

Martine Aboucaya is delighted to present Anthony McCall's sixth solo exhibition. Known for his solid light projections since the 1970s, the English artist and sculptor of the immaterial is once again investing the gallery space with two new immersive works.

The first one, entitled 'Raised Voices', is a horizontal projection whose sound score was designed in collaboration with musician and composer David Grubbs. As ever, the materialisation of the light beams, made possible by the presence of the fog, emphasises, as Philippe-Alain Michaud points out, "the very gesture of projection" and gives a decisive place to the spectator: "the spectator is now inside the film, conceived no longer as a form circumscribed in a given space, but as the field itself in which the experience is constituted".
The 'sculptures' appear and the viewer experiences the light - a material experience.

Anthony McCall is also presenting for the first time at the gallery, a vertical work entitled 'Skylight'. His unusual installation, on a smaller scale, nevertheless retains its identity as a solid light sculpture and is projected onto a plinth. This change of scale now opens up an infinite range of approaches to Anthony McCall's work...
